Sewer Information

ACWA offers sewer services throughout Anderson County where available. The authority collects sewage and transports it to Clinton Utilities Board through a sewer collection system. To operate the collection system within the parameters and guidelines that the EPA and the Tennessee Department of Conservation set for sewer providers ACWA has implemented policies to guide both ACWA personnel and customers. There are two types of sewer connections to ACWA. Your residence may be served by a gravity system or a pressure sewer system that requires a grinder pump. ACWA does have some water customers that we do not provide the sewer services for but bill for the sewer service for the municipality providing the service such as in Lake City. This page will provide you the information needed to better understand your sewer service.

Gravity Sewer Customers Responsibility
Customers with gravity sewer laterals are responsible for all sewer line leaks, blockages and maintenance activities from the house to the sewer tap at the sewer main. If you see 3" or 4" pvc pipes stubbed up from the ground on your property these are likely sewer cleanout locations that should remain visible and kept without damage for future maintenance needs. ***Only household plumbing should be connected to the sewer lateral. Connecting house down spouts are other sources of water to the sewer lateral is a violation and the expense to remove will charged to the residence.

Pressure Sewer Customer Responsility
Customers that have a pressure connection to the ACWA sewer collection system is more complicated than a gravity system. Residences with this type of connection require an Eone grinder pump to be installed on premise to transport waste from the residence and/or business to the public sewer system. The best way to identify if your property is served by this type of sewer connection is to inspect your site for an alarm control panel that is part of the grinder pump installation. On residences this panel is commonly found on the exterior wall of the home. Grinder pumps are maintained and repaired by ACWA as part of your sewer service. This service covers repairs required under normal wear and tear conditions and do not cover intentional damage or damage caused by unauthorized objects being put into the property's sewer plumbing. Damages to the grinder pumps other than normal wear and tear will be billed to the property owner. At the bottom of this page you will find a document that will illustrate the areas of ACWA and the customer responsibility.

Grinder Pump & Sewer Tap Information
Any person or entity requesting to connect to ACWA's sewer system must contact the Authority's office in person and apply for service. ACWA taps the public sewer mains for all service connections for a published fee which is currently $1,500 per tap. Persons requesting sewer service that requires a grinder pump installation must abide by all ACWA sewer policies in addition to the requirements to install the E/One grinder pump. The specifications for the installations can be downloaded at the bottom of this page. All installations must be by E/One certified installers and must be inspected by the Superintendent of Sewer for ACWA or other ACWA inspectors prior to being backfilled.
